Teeth Whitening Tips

A beautiful and cheerful smile can brighten a day and it may not be as difficult as you imagine to get that gorgeous smile along with the pearly whites to brighten your day.

Many people are fast realising how important the health and appearance of their teeth can be to their overall image and the impression they create. A smile is regarded as an important asset, crucial to how you portray yourself in your professional and personal life so how can you get a great smile that leaves a lasting positive impression?

There are many cosmetic dental treatments available to help change the appearance, shape and colour of your teeth. One of the simplest and quickest ways to do this is by getting a whiter smile through the process of teeth whitening.

The results of professional dental whitening carried out by a dentist can be noticeable almost immediately although optimum results are obtained over a few weeks by utilising trays and dental strength whitening solution(not the type you can buy over the counter) which due to its strength and effectiveness, can only be provided to you by your dentist.

Having undertaken tooth whitening treatment from your dentist, it is important to take care of your newly whitened teeth with a good dental health regime and avoiding foods and drinks which might stain them again over time, in order to keep your teeth whiter for longer.

Below are some tips on keeping your pearly whites whiter for longer following teeth whitening treatment:

• Brush and floss at least twice daily particularly after eating. Teeth can get discoloured and dull if without regular brushing and flossing which in turn can also lead to poor oral hygiene and gum health problems.

• The foods and drinks you consume have an impact on the appearance of your teeth as well as their health. For example, red wine and coffee can stain teeth and acidic foods like oranges  and lemons (and even tomatoes!) can erode the enamel on your teeth if the acid remains in contact with them. Nobody is suggesting you eliminate food and drinks you enjoy completely but to minimise the impact they might have on your teeth, brush or rinsing after consuming such food and drinks will always help and is a good idea.

• Ensure you have regular dental appointments with your dentist and your hygienist. They are essential to keep your teeth and gums in good health and in maintaining a youthful and attractive smile.
