Veneers have been used for a long time in cosmetic dentistry in order to fix crooked or unsightly teeth. Cosmetic dentists employ veneers to fix thhe teeth of  TV actors, movie stars, sports personalities and other celebrities>Porcelain veneers have long been the favoured dental treatment choice to get a perfect set of teeth and a beautiful and bright smile.

These days, the veneers that are used are made from porcelain and they are used to treat cracked, crooked or discoloured tooth. Porcelain veneers are also known as dental veneers or dental porcelain laminates.

The two main advantages of porcelain veneers are:

  •  Most cosmetic dental bonding materials are susceptible to discolouration and stains, particularly for people who drink a lot of coffee, tea or alcohol and who chew or smoke tobacco products. However, because porcelain is similar to glass, it is resistant to discolouration and stains.
  • They create a realistic tooth-like appearance, unlike older dental bonding methods that were semi-transparent and lacked the whiteness of real teeth. Even if the dentist had done a good job, the tooth still seemed like it lacked something because of a lack of lustre. As porcelain is a form of glass and a ceramic, it is transparent and when bonded with the tooth, it takes on a lifelike lustre.

Porcelain veneers are often utilised by cosmetic dentists in smile makeover treatments on television programmes such as Extereme Makeove and 10 years younger as they can transform an unattractive set of teeth to a beautiful and attractive looking smile.
